The SFI solution stops nuisance flickering in LED down lights associated with the off peak hot water tone injected into the supply, which is common in NSW and QLD.
By using the SDD400SFI dimmer AND SFI (only) compatible down lights from SAL, this flicker is eliminated.
Limitations #
There are some limitations to the number of compatible SAL SFI down lights which can be connected per dimmer circuit.
- 1. The SDD400SFI has a 250VA for LED lights, maximum load capacity
- 2. A maximum of 20 SAL SFI enabled lights can be connected to a single dimming circuit
These are the 2 versions of compatible SAL downlights:
Multiway Control #
Multiway control is also possible so when 2 way or 3 way control is needed in the home, this can be provided.
As the SDD400SFI is a PIXIE smart home enabled device, 2 way and 3 way control MUST be provided via other PIXIE products and NOT via traditional wiring or components.
PIXIE Mulitway switch (S2W/BTAS) #
The S2W/BTAS Multiway switch (link to data sheet) provides up to 3 way control – that is use of 1 x SDD400SFI and up to 2 x S2W/BTAS Multiway devices.
These S2W devices use the existing straps that were previously used for 2 way or 3 way OR when there is no neutral available. ( see below Multifunction switch to understand why)
- – It is only possible to have 2 x S2WBTAS maximum per SDD400SFI
- – When using the 1 or 2 of the S2W/BTAS the MAXIMUM number of SAL SFI enabled down lights is 12

PIXIE Multifunction Switch #
The SMF/BTAS Multifunction controller (link to data sheet) is connected using an Active and Neutral from any circuit. As this device does not actually drive the load and instead communicates over the Bluetooth Mesh to the SDD400SFI dimmer, its possible to have up to 8 way control.
That is, up to 8 different location where the SDD400SFI dimmer circuit can be controlled from.
When using any SMF/BTAS products the MAXIMUM number of SAL SFI down lights is 20.
If a neutral is available at any of the desired dimming location, use of the SMFBTAS is recommended.
PIXIE Compatible #
When using either the SMFBTAS or the S2WBTAS for 2 way or multiway dimming control, PIXIE’s Bluetooth Mesh rules apply.
As both of these devices MUST be pared to the Master device – the SDD400SFI – these devices MUST be within 10-15metres of each other and during the pairing process and the load under control must be off.
