# Does PIXIE fit into *Iconic®*?

PIXIE and Clipsal® Iconic® use different mechanism sizes, so the mechs do not swap into each other's grid plates. PIXIE still works on an Iconic® project. The right method depends on one thing: is it a new build, or is Iconic® already on the wall?

4 min read Updated September 2026 Audience: Electricians The short answer

## Different mech sizes, *same wall.*

PIXIE is a *30mech* fitment. Iconic® is a *40mech* fitment. A PIXIE smart mech will not clip into an Iconic® grid plate, and an Iconic® mech will not clip into a PIXIE grid plate (SWP1 to SWP6).

That is the whole constraint. Everything else in this article is about working around it cleanly. There are two paths, and which one you take comes down to whether the Iconic® plates are still on the shelf or already screwed to the wall.

   Path 1

### New build, or Iconic® not yet installed

Easy. Use PIXIE smart mechs on PIXIE grid plates and snap the Iconic® faceplate over the front. Nothing changes on the PIXIE side.

   Path 2

### Iconic® already installed

Time to do the maths. Either change the grid plates over to PIXIE (Path 1), or keep the Iconic® plates and run PIXIE /BP modules as pucks behind Iconic® momentary bell press mechs.

      Path 1 · New build

## The Iconic® look on a *PIXIE grid plate.*

Plenty of customers want their switches and power points to look like Iconic®. PIXIE handles this without any change to the smart mechs. The PIXIE grid plate carries the mechs, and the Iconic® faceplate snaps over the front of it.

- 1
  #### Fit PIXIE smart mechs to a PIXIE grid plate

Order the PIXIE smart dimmers, switches and controllers as normal, plus the matching PIXIE grid plate (SWP1 to SWP6, one to six gang). No switch cap change, no special version of the mech.
- 2
  #### Order the Iconic® faceplate and push-button caps separately

The Iconic® faceplate (skin) and the Iconic® push-button caps are Schneider Electric® products, purchased from your wholesaler alongside the rest of the Iconic® range. The cap for a white plate is the Clipsal® Iconic® push-button assembly, Vivid White, part number **40APB-VW** (supplied as a 5 pack).
- 3
  #### Fit the caps to the faceplate, then snap it on

Clip the Iconic® push-button caps into the Iconic® faceplate first, then snap the finished faceplate over the front of the PIXIE grid plate. Done.

### Mixing smart and non-smart on the same plate

Not every gang needs to be smart. For a plain on/off position on the same PIXIE grid plate, use the PIXIE non-smart push button **SWL10L**, a 10A traditionally wired mech, together with the PIXIE spacing kit **SPC02N** (a pack of 10 spacers for non-smart mechs). Same grid plate, same Iconic® faceplate over the top.

| Item | Part number | Supplied by |
| --- | --- | --- |
| PIXIE smart mech (dimmer, switch, multifunction, timer) | **Standard PIXIE codes** | PIXIE, via your wholesaler |
| PIXIE grid plate, 1 to 6 gang | **SWP1 to SWP6** | PIXIE, via your wholesaler |
| PIXIE non-smart push button, 10A | **SWL10L** | PIXIE, via your wholesaler |
| PIXIE spacing kit for non-smart mechs, pack of 10 | **SPC02N** | PIXIE, via your wholesaler |
| Iconic® faceplate (skin) | **Per Iconic® range** | Schneider Electric®, via your wholesaler |
| Iconic® push-button cap, Vivid White, 5 pack | **40APB-VW** | Schneider Electric®, via your wholesaler |

    Path 2 · Iconic® already installed

## Do the maths *before you order.*

When Iconic® is already on the wall and the customer wants PIXIE, you have two options. Price both before committing, because the answer is not always the one you expect.

### Option A: change the grid plates over to PIXIE

Swap the Iconic® grid plates for PIXIE grid plates (SWP1 to SWP6), fit PIXIE smart mechs, and snap the Iconic® faceplates back over the front with 40APB-VW caps fitted, exactly as in Path 1. Standard PIXIE install, no /BP versions, no pucks, no extra wiring.

### Option B: keep the Iconic® plates, run PIXIE as a puck

Keep the Iconic® grid plates and faceplates in place and use the **/BP version** of the PIXIE smart module. The /BP modules come with two additional white cables on the bottom of the device. The PIXIE module sits in the wall cavity like a puck, wired to the load as normal through its active and switch wire, and the two white BP cables connect **volt free** to an Iconic® momentary bell press mech in the plate.

The Iconic® mech has to be a **momentary bell press**, not the standard rocker switch. A rocker has to be rocked on and then rocked off again to send one press to the PIXIE module, which is not how anyone wants to use a light switch. Swap the rocker mech for the Clipsal® Iconic® bell press momentary mech, Vivid White, part number **40MBPRL-VW**, and each press mimics a press on the PIXIE button.

**Volt free is the trick.** The BP cables on a PIXIE /BP module are rated for dry contact operation only. Never connect mains or any voltage to the BP cables. Active and switch wire on the PIXIE module go to the load, and the BP cables go to the bell press contacts only.

### PIXIE modules available as /BP

| Module | /BP part number | Notes |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Smart Dimmer | **SDD300/BTAM/BP** | Active and switch wire to load, two BP cables to bell press |
| Smart SFI Dimmer | **SDD400SFI/BP** | Active and switch wire to load, two BP cables to bell press |
| Smart Switch | **SWL600BTAM/BP** | Active and switch wire to load, two BP cables to bell press |
| Smart Multifunction Controller | **SMF/BTAS/BP** | Active and neutral, two BP cables to bell press |

**Why the maths matters.** Option B means buying an Iconic® bell press mech for every position on top of the PIXIE /BP module, and Iconic® mechs are generally the more expensive part. Once you add the extra wiring time and the enclosure work for each puck, a straight changeover to PIXIE grid plates (Option A) is often the cheaper job with less hassle. Cost it both ways on the actual gang count for the project and let the numbers decide. Keep reading
